Traditional Lime Plastering Services

At Oakshire Rose, we are incredibly passionate about lime and take great pleasure in working with it. This may sound strange at first, but once someone understands the benefits and characteristics of lime as a building material, it starts to make sense why we hold it in such high regard.

Lime being the beautiful, natural resource that it is, is one of the most durable, flexible and permeable building materials, and it forms an important part of English heritage.

Our passionate team of master craftspeople consider lime works not only a skill, but an art, as it requires hands-on experience and understanding to get the perfect mix and application.

How do I know if my home was crafted lime mortar?

If you’re unsure if your property has lime mortar, one test that you can carry out on the mortar is to apply a small amount of white vinegar to the lime using either a baster, spray bottle or container. If it is lime there will be a light fizzing / bubbling acidic reaction.

This is most effective in areas where there are lumps of lime that were not fully broken down during the mixing process when the lime was originally applied.
